Asia-EU Trade Workshop and Roundtable

On 31 May and 1 June 2019, Prof Richard Pomfret Jean Monnet Chair in the Economics of European Integration and Prof Peter Draper Executive Director of The Institute for International Trade participated in a Workshop and Round Table discussion on Asia-EU Trade at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.  Richard Pomfret presented on the origins and significance of rail links between China and Europe.  In the off-the-record Round Table discussions, Peter Draper was kick-off speaker on WTO plurilateral initiatives and reform and Richard Pomfret kicked-off discussion on the CPTPP, RCEP and the EU-Australia trade agreement.

The Asia-EU Trade Workshop and Roundtable discussed ongoing research papers prepared as part of the RESPECT project and discussed recent developments and policy research focusing on analyses, scenarios and prospects for the US trade war; the state of play and developments in EU and Asian trade agreements (KORUS, EU-Japan, CPTPP, RCEP); EU-China economic relations and the Belt & Road initiative, and WTO reform initiatives and dispute resolution.
