The Institute for International Trade partnered with the Trade and Investment Research Network to deliver an informative webinar with our distinguished panel for a substantive discussion on the G20's role in reforming industrial subsidies. ‘What is the G20's role in reforming industrial subsidies?’ was the central question assessed by a panel of distinguished trade experts during this recent webinar.
On 21-23 October a group of twenty-two EU ambassadors and heads of mission came to Adelaide. They visited various businesses in the state and met Premier Steven Marshall to discuss how to further expand European connections with South Australia. On the evening of Thursday 22 October, The Centre of Excellence
co-sponsored a public panel discussion in the University of Adelaide’s Elder Hall which was followed by a dinner at the National Wine Centre.

29 September, 2020 The Jean Monnet Network - Trade & Investment in Services Associates (TIISA) presented Session 9 in the Digital Trade stream. Competition & Innovation in the Digital Age: Pro-Innovation Domestic & International Governance. Presentations highlighted critical issues on how policymakers and regulators can encourage both competition and innovation by facilitating trade in digitalised services and free flow of data.
17 February 2020 - IIT staff and Ph.D. Students attended the seminar "Trade and Investment in Services: An urgent Agenda” presented by Hein Roelfsema, IIT's visiting Associate Professor for International Economics.
On 22 October IIT staff and students participated in the launch of World in a Box by Minister for Trade Tourism and Investment, Senator The Hon Simon Birmingham at the University of Adelaide.
Trade & Investment in Services Associates (TIISA) held its first annual conference at the World Trade Institute at the University of Bern in Switzerland on 20-21 September 2019. Researchers from six of the partner institutions presented papers around the theme Trade in Services by Mode of Supply. The conference also included papers from staff of the WTO, the OECD and the US Federal Reserve highlighting major new advances in data on services trade as well as services research from those institutions.
Hosted by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, on 13 September 2019. Participants investigated why the time is opportune by examining the evolution of EU and Australian trade policies and situating this evolution in the twenty-first century world trading system.
Speaking at IIT's recent ‘Rethinking Trade Architecture’ conference held at The Intercontinental Hotel on 10 September, Deputy Director-General Alan Wolff reflected on the current challenges facing the world trading system and what the system might look like in the year 2050. He foresaw that the system will continue to be tested but it will endure and improvements will be made to make it “effective with respect to all aspects of global needs, not least economic development”.
